To protect its livestock and pets, the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) has introduced strict new animal transport rules starting June 17, 2026.

These measures aim to prevent the New World screwworm (NWS), a dangerous flesh-eating parasite, from entering the state.
