The highly anticipated pan-India film 'Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-ups,' directed by Geetu Mohandas and starring Yash, is gearing up for release after navigating a complex path through India's Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).
While rumors suggested the movie might face major cuts, the CBFC ultimately granted it an 'A' (Adults Only) certificate with minimal interference.
The board required no scene removals, though it did order minor edits, including muting specific abusive language and reducing the length of scenes depicting drug use.
Additionally, mandatory anti-smoking and anti-drinking warnings must be displayed.
The film, which features an ensemble cast including Kiara Advani and Nayanthara, has a runtime of over three hours.
Before reaching the censor board, 'Toxic' faced significant public backlash regarding its promotional teaser, which critics argued contained scenes disrespectful to women.
This sparked a heated national debate about the balance between artistic freedom and social responsibility.
Internationally, the film received a similar 'A' rating from the British Board of Film Classification, citing strong violence and mature themes.
Despite previous scheduling delays, the film remains a massive project, with fans showing high interest through significant advance ticket bookings.
