Starting in November 2026, Microsoft is changing how subscribers access Xbox Cloud Gaming.
Moving away from unlimited play, the company will introduce monthly usage caps based on your specific Game Pass tier.
Subscribers will receive between 5 and 15 hours of streaming time per month, depending on whether they have an Essential, Premium, or Ultimate plan.
Microsoft says these changes are necessary to manage the rising costs of cloud infrastructure while ensuring service reliability.
For those who need more time, the company will offer the option to purchase additional hours through the Xbox Store.
Notably, non-subscribers will also be able to buy hours to stream games they already own.
While this shift might seem significant, Microsoft estimates it will impact only 4% of current users.
More details, including specific pricing for extra hours and how to track your usage, are expected closer to the launch date.
This move places Xbox in a similar position to other cloud streaming services that use usage-based models to balance demand and performance.
