Train derailment in Russia leaves at least 35 injured
On the night of May 31, 2025, a tragic accident occurred in the Vygonichsky District of the Bryansk Oblast, Russia.
At approximately 10:50 p.m., a road bridge situated above a set of railway tracks collapsed, causing debris to fall directly onto a passing passenger train.
A truck, which happened to be crossing the bridge at the moment of the structural failure, was also caught in the collapse.
The incident resulted in a heartbreaking loss of life, with at least seven fatalities reported.
Additionally, 35 people sustained injuries, including three children; one individual was airlifted to Moscow for advanced medical treatment.
A large-scale rescue operation involving 180 emergency responders was quickly launched to assist the passengers.
While the collapse caused the train to derail, officials are investigating the possibility of 'illegal interference' as a cause, rather than mere structural failure.
Local Governor Alexander Bogomaz has been providing updates as authorities continue their work to determine exactly what led to this devastating event.
The surviving passengers were safely moved to temporary shelters before being provided with a replacement train to reach their destinations.
