South Africa wins 50th anniversary Hong Kong Sevens tournament
The 2026 Cathay/HSBC Hong Kong Sevens, held at the new Kai Tak Sports Park, was a historic milestone as it celebrated its 50th anniversary.
This golden jubilee event kicked off the new World Championship series.
In the men's division, South Africa’s "Blitzboks" finally made history by securing their first-ever Hong Kong Sevens title.
After competing since 1993, the team ended their 33-year drought with a convincing 35–7 victory over defending champions, Argentina.
Meanwhile, the New Zealand women’s team continued their remarkable dominance in the sport.
The Black Ferns Sevens claimed their fourth consecutive Hong Kong title by narrowly defeating Australia 19–14 in a high-stakes final.
With over 110,000 fans in attendance, the atmosphere was electric as the tournament entered a new era.
Having proven their strength in Hong Kong, the top teams now look toward the remaining legs of the World Championship series in Valladolid and Bordeaux.
