In September 2026, Marvel Studios thrilled fans by re-releasing the 2019 smash hit, Avengers: Endgame.
Titled Avengers: Endgame Encore, this strategic return to theaters serves two purposes: building excitement for the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday and attempting to reclaim the title of the highest-grossing film in history from James Cameron’s Avatar.
The re-release opened impressively, earning $86 million globally.
This brings its total lifetime gross to approximately $2.885 billion, leaving it just $39 million shy of Avatar’s record of $2.924 billion.
To encourage fans to watch it again, the studio added new end-credits scenes and a special thank-you message from stars Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans.
Despite competition from new releases, the film secured the number one spot at the global box office.
As the weeks progress, the film industry is watching closely to see if the MCU’s victory lap will be enough to surpass Avatar and cement its place as the greatest box office titan of all time.
