China Prioritizes Innovation in New Five-Year Economic Plan
China is shifting its economic focus.
Moving away from purely rapid GDP growth, the nation is prioritizing "high-quality development" in its 14th and 15th Five-Year Plans.
This strategy centers on achieving technological self-reliance, especially in critical areas like AI, quantum computing, and semiconductors.
By promoting "New Quality Productive Forces," the government aims to modernize traditional industries through digital and green technology.
This does not mean China is closing its doors; rather, through the "Dual Circulation" strategy, Beijing seeks to strengthen its internal market while remaining engaged internationally.
By increasing R&D spending by at least 7% annually and fostering collaboration between academia and industry, China intends to secure its position as a global leader in innovation by 2035.
