Air Canada CEO to Retire in Late 2026
Air Canada recently announced that President and CEO Michael Rousseau will retire by September 30, 2026.
The controversy peaked following an English-only message issued after a tragic accident at LaGuardia Airport, which drew sharp condemnation from leaders, including Prime Minister Mark Carney.
While Rousseau has led the airline through major milestones like the COVID-19 pandemic and the Aeroplan acquisition since taking the helm in 2021, his lack of French-language proficiency became a significant point of friction.
As Canada's national carrier, the airline is now under pressure to ensure better linguistic representation.
The Board of Directors has initiated a global search for a successor, utilizing firms like Egon Zehnder and Korn Ferry.
A critical requirement for the new leader is the ability to communicate in both of Canada's official languages, French and English.
