Toho Announces Plan to Mass-Produce Anime by 2032
The Japanese entertainment giant Toho Co., Ltd. has officially announced a bold strategic shift to transform its anime business into a primary corporate pillar by 2032.
Currently producing 14 seasons (cours) per year, Toho aims to scale its output to 20 cours by 2029, and reach a massive 30 cours by its 100th anniversary in 2032.
Instead of animating every project in-house, Toho acts as a central production hub, coordinating between studios like Science SARU and Studio Orange while managing funding and global distribution.
While this strategy reflects immense confidence in the global demand for anime, it has also triggered industry discussions.
Critics are concerned that such a rapid increase in production volume might prioritize quantity over quality and potentially worsen existing labor challenges for animators.
As Toho leverages its financial power, the industry watches closely to see if this industrial-scale approach can meet international demand without compromising the artistry of Japanese animation.
