Patients return to Saskatchewan health center following wildfire evacuation

In early June 2026, the Parkland Integrated Health Centre in Shellbrook, Saskatchewan, welcomed back its patients and long-term care residents.

This return followed a successful, precautionary evacuation triggered by the approaching Lobstick Fire.

On May 29, the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) relocated 53 individuals, including 33 long-term care residents and 20 acute care patients, to various facilities across the region to ensure their safety.

While the facility remained open for emergency services during this period, the evacuation was a necessary step to protect vulnerable residents.

As the wildfire was brought under control—reaching approximately 80% containment—and local evacuation orders were lifted, the repatriation process began on June 2.

This complex operation was made possible through the dedicated teamwork of the SHA, the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency, EMS teams, and local community partners.
