On June 15, 2026, India achieved a major milestone in its defense sector by successfully test-firing the indigenously developed Long Range Land Attack Cruise Missile (LRLACM).
Designed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the LRLACM is a subsonic, Tomahawk-class weapon with an estimated range of 1,000 to 1,500 kilometers.
Traveling at Mach 0.8, the missile is engineered for low-altitude, terrain-hugging flight, allowing it to evade sophisticated radar networks.
A standout feature of the project is its reliance on the indigenous Manik Small Turbofan Engine, highlighting India's commitment to the 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' or self-reliance initiative.
The versatile missile is currently being developed for use by the Army, Navy, and Air Force, with configurations planned for ground, naval, and eventually aerial launch platforms.
