House Democrats launched an official investigation into the financial connections between Donald Trump Jr. and Russian oligarch Umar Kremlev.
This inquiry follows a ProPublica report alleging that Kremlev, who leads the International Boxing Association (IBA), paid for a lavish three-day wedding celebration for Trump Jr. and his wife, Bettina, in the Bahamas.
According to the report, the payments—processed via a Dubai-based entity linked to the Russian firm Gazprom—covered expenses like private island rentals and fireworks.
Donald and Bettina Trump have defended the arrangement, describing the support as a generous gift from a friend and denying any political motivation.
However, Representative Robert Garcia, the ranking Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, is leading a probe into whether this represents a "pay-to-play" scenario or an instance of improper foreign influence.
The committee has requested extensive documentation regarding communications between Trump Jr. and Kremlev, as well as details on any access Kremlev might have had to the White House.
Critics argue the situation creates potential conflicts of interest and national security risks, marking a significant escalation in ongoing congressional scrutiny of the Trump family's financial activities.
