At approximately 6:32 p.m., emergency services were called to First Avenue near 42nd Street, where a man had set himself on fire.
儘管急救人員迅速趕抵並撲滅火勢，該名男子在被送往貝爾優醫院後仍因傷重不治。
Despite the rapid arrival of first responders who extinguished the flames, the individual succumbed to his injuries after being transported to Bellevue Hospital.
這名男子身分為42歲的羅布桑·朗傑（羅布桑·朗傑，Lobga Rangzen），是一名長期居住在美國的西藏議題活動人士。
The man was identified as 42-year-old Lobga Rangzen, a long-term U.S. resident and an activist for Tibetan causes.
目擊者指出，他在事發前曾手持西藏旗幟；支持者稱此舉是他為了引起全球對西藏人權問題的關注，以及對中國統治表達異議的最終抗議手段。
Witnesses observed him carrying a Tibetan flag before the event, which supporters described as a final act of protest to draw global attention to human rights issues in Tibet and opposition to Chinese governance.
