The BBC has announced significant changes to its sports coverage as part of an urgent strategy to address a financial shortfall.
Facing a wider goal of saving £500 million by 2028, the broadcaster is axing lunchtime and overnight sports bulletins on its 24-hour news channel.
These cuts will result in 36 job losses across BBC Sport, including senior producer roles.
The shift reflects changing consumption habits; senior leaders argue that audiences now prefer real-time updates on social media over scheduled TV reports.
With morale low and the broadcasting union Bectu warning of potential industrial action, the corporation faces a difficult balancing act between maintaining its public service remit and managing its precarious financial health in an increasingly digital world.
