初期報告によると、登録番号FKJ 630 KSのトヨタ・カムリが、スピードの出しすぎと無謀な運転によりコントロールを失いました。

車は道路のカルバート（排水溝）に乗り上げた後、向こうから来ていたトラックと正面衝突しました。

悲劇的にも、運転手のオペイェミ・タイウォさんを含む乗車していた5人全員が即死しました。
Tragically, all five occupants of the car, including the driver identified as Opeyemi Taiwo, died instantly.
トラックの運転手は現場から逃走しましたが、LASEMAやFRSCなど複数の機関の緊急対応隊員が迅速に派遣され、現場の処理と交通整理にあたりました。
