午後6時32分ごろ、第1街路と42丁目近辺で、男性が焼身自殺を試みたとの通報を受け、緊急サービスが出動した。
At approximately 6:32 p.m., emergency services were called to First Avenue near 42nd Street, where a man had set himself on fire.
迅速に到着した救急隊によって消火されたものの、搬送先のベルビュー病院で死亡が確認された。
Despite the rapid arrival of first responders who extinguished the flames, the individual succumbed to his injuries after being transported to Bellevue Hospital.
男性は、米国に長年居住し、チベット問題の活動家であるロブガ・ランゼン氏（42歳）と判明した。
The man was identified as 42-year-old Lobga Rangzen, a long-term U.S. resident and an activist for Tibetan causes.
目撃者によると、事件前に彼がチベットの旗を持っている姿が確認されており、支持者らは、チベットにおける人権問題や中国の統治への反対を世界に訴えるための最後の抗議行動であったと述べている。
Witnesses observed him carrying a Tibetan flag before the event, which supporters described as a final act of protest to draw global attention to human rights issues in Tibet and opposition to Chinese governance.
