British Columbia launches new health regulatory oversight office
2026年4月1日、ブリティッシュコロンビア州は医療専門職及び職業法（HPOA）を施行し、過去30年間で最も重要な医療規制制度の改革を断行しました。
On April 1, 2026, British Columbia launched the Health Professions and Occupations Act (HPOA), marking the most significant reform to its health regulatory system in 30 years.
この変化の中心にあるのが、シェリ・ヤング監督官が率いる新しい医療専門職及び職業規制監督室（HPOROO）です。
At the heart of this change is the new Health Professions and Occupations Regulatory Oversight Office (HPOROO), led by Superintendent Sherri Young.
主な変更点には、専門職による選挙に代わる理事の能力ベースの任命プロセスや、懲戒処分を扱う独立した医療専門職規律法廷の設置が含ま[ふくま]れます。
Key changes include a merit-based appointment process for board members—replacing professional elections—and the creation of an independent Health Professions Discipline Tribunal to handle disciplinary actions.

While the government frames these changes as essential for public accountability, critics, including Doctors of BC, worry that reducing professional autonomy could lead to the politicization of these bodies.
