Canada Guarantees Passport Processing Within 30 Business Days
Starting April 1, 2026, Canada introduced a major change to travel document services: the "30 days or free" guarantee.
If a standard passport application is not processed within 30 business days, the government will issue an automatic full refund.
Interestingly, this guarantee accompanies a recent passport fee increase, which is the first since 2013.
By linking cost to performance, the government is betting on increased efficiency to meet these new standards.
If a delay occurs, applicants do not need to file a claim; refunds are processed automatically by cheque or electronic payment.
This move signifies a broader shift toward prioritizing citizen experience in government operations, ensuring that if travelers face delays, they are at least compensated for the inconvenience.
