U.S. Announces Major Global Health Funding Initiative

State Department announced a significant new global health initiative, committing nearly $2 billion in funding.

This marks the largest allocation of such assistance to faith-based organizations in over two decades.

Central to the Trump administration’s 'America First' Global Health Strategy, this initiative prioritizes government-to-government agreements and partnerships with faith-based and private sectors.

The funding package is divided into two main categories: $1.4 billion for health services and $538 million for humanitarian assistance.

A major part of this includes an $850 million award to a World Vision-led consortium to support over 2,500 facilities and train 30,000 health workers globally.

Additionally, Samaritan’s Purse and other partners will use humanitarian funds to aid 7 million people across 16 crises.

While groups like the National Association of Evangelicals have praised this focus on faith-based organizations, the strategy has also prompted debate among experts regarding the efficiency and equitable distribution of aid compared to traditional models.

This move represents a notable shift in U.S. foreign assistance following recent structural changes and past funding adjustments.
