As Toronto prepares to host the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the city is launching an ambitious "transit-first" mobility plan.
Because there will be no public parking near BMO Field or major festival sites, officials are directing all attendees to use public transit, cycling, or walking.
To manage an estimated 1.5 million additional trips, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) and Metrolinx have introduced major service upgrades.
GO Transit will increase frequency on the Lakeshore lines, while the TTC is boosting subway, bus, and streetcar service, including late-night extensions.
Key infrastructure improvements include a new temporary transit hub on Fleet Street and the implementation of RapidTO lanes to keep buses and streetcars moving despite heavy event-related traffic.
With major road closures planned in areas like Liberty Village, public transport is essential.
