Sri Lanka restarts 25 major hospital infrastructure projects

In a significant move to revitalize the national healthcare system, the Sri Lankan government has officially restarted 25 major hospital infrastructure projects as of June 2026.
These initiatives, originally launched between 2014 and 2024, had been halted due to the global pandemic and national economic challenges.
Nalinda Jayatissa, the government has committed an investment of Rs. 76 billion to complete these facilities over a three-year period.
The program includes the completion of vital infrastructure such as cancer treatment centers, maternal and child health units, cardiac care facilities, and modern surgical complexes.
Additionally, the government is focusing on administrative upgrades and sustainability, such as installing 15 medical waste incinerators across the country.
This ambitious project aims to drastically improve service delivery and meet the increasing demand for medical care in both urban and regional hospitals, ensuring that citizens have access to quality health infrastructure nationwide.
