A high-profile sexual assault trial involving rock legend Steven Tyler has been delayed following the recusal of the presiding judge, Patricia A.
The civil lawsuit was initiated by Julia Misley in 2022 under California’s Child Victims Act, which allowed survivors to pursue claims otherwise blocked by the statute of limitations.
Misley alleges that she and Tyler were involved in a sexual relationship in the early 1970s when she was 16 and he was in his mid-20s.
She further claims that Tyler became her legal guardian to facilitate travel and pressured her to terminate a pregnancy.
While Tyler acknowledges their past relationship, he firmly denies the allegations of assault and battery.
The legal battle has seen significant shifts, with Judge Young previously dismissing nearly all of Misley’s claims based on jurisdictional and time-related grounds.
Only a single claim regarding an alleged 1974 encounter in California remained set for trial.
With the judge’s recent disqualification, the proceedings face further delays.
This case remains separate from other dismissed litigation against the singer, and Tyler's defense team continues to highlight the dismissal of the majority of the claims as a major legal victory.
