Rockstar Games confirms data breach, says GTA 6 development remains on track
In April 2026, Rockstar Games reported a significant cyberattack, the second such incident in three years.
Unlike a direct attack on their systems, hackers from the group ShinyHunters targeted Anodot, a third-party cloud-cost tool.
By stealing authentication tokens, the hackers gained access to Rockstar's Snowflake data warehouse.
While they claimed to hold nearly 79 million records, Rockstar stated the breach was limited to non-material data, assuring players that sensitive info and GTA 6 source code remained secure.
Despite the ransom demand from ShinyHunters, Rockstar confirmed that GTA 6 development is still on track for its November 19, 2026, release.
This incident highlights a growing trend in cybersecurity known as a fourth-party attack, where hackers infiltrate large corporations by exploiting smaller, trusted vendors.
It serves as a reminder of the digital risks in the gaming industry.
