Mountaineer Nirmal Purja dies in avalanche on Broad Peak

The world of mountaineering is in mourning following the tragic death of Nirmal “Nimsdai” Purja.

On July 30, 2026, the 43-year-old Nepali-British legend was struck by a massive avalanche while attempting to summit Broad Peak in the Karakoram range.

The disaster claimed the lives of all ten members of his expedition team.

Purja was a global icon, famous for his historic 'Project Possible' in 2019, where he summited all fourteen of the world’s 8,000-meter peaks in just over six months.

Broad Peak, the world's 12th-highest mountain, remains one of the most perilous climbs in existence.
