Microsoft is shaking up its Xbox Cloud Gaming service with a major update set for November 2026.
The company is moving away from its current unlimited streaming model in favor of a monthly hour-based system linked to specific Game Pass tiers.
Under the new plan, Game Pass Ultimate subscribers get 15 hours of streaming per month, Premium members get 10 hours, and Essential members receive 5 hours.
If players run out of time, they will have the option to purchase extra hours directly from the Xbox Store, though pricing details are currently unavailable.
Notably, this update also introduces a new way for non-subscribers to access cloud gaming; people who do not have a Game Pass membership will now be able to buy hours to stream games they already own.
Microsoft explained that these changes are necessary to manage the rising costs of cloud infrastructure as the user base expands.
While the shift may sound restrictive, the company estimates that only about 4% of current subscribers will be impacted, as most users stay below these thresholds.
