King Charles III visits U.S. Congress to strengthen UK ties
On April 28, 2026, King Charles III made history by addressing a joint session of the United States Congress.
Accompanied by Queen Camilla, the King’s first state visit as monarch was timed to honor the 250th anniversary of American independence.
Only the second British monarch to address Congress—following his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, in 1991—Charles aimed to emphasize the "priceless and eternal" special relationship between the UK and the U.S.
In his speech, he championed democratic values and the necessity of the NATO alliance, while urging both nations to avoid becoming inward-looking.
The visit also served as a moment of resolve; following a recent shooting at the White House Correspondents' Association Dinner, the King condemned such violence with unwavering strength.
