India creates task force to fix exam system

In July 2026, the Indian government launched a significant initiative to transform its national examination system after months of public unrest.
Following large-scale protests, most notably regarding the NEET-UG 2026 exam, officials moved to overhaul the National Testing Agency (NTA).
To lead this effort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi appointed a six-member task force headed by Nandan Nilekani, the co-founder of Infosys and architect of India's Aadhaar system.
This expert committee includes leaders from the fields of space science, intelligence, technology, and education, such as former ISRO Chairman S.
The group is tasked with creating a secure, transparent, and 'leak-proof' testing environment.
Their mission focuses on tightening logistics, improving digital security, and strengthening candidate verification to protect the academic future of millions of students.
Complementing these technical reforms, the government is introducing the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026.
This legislation targets exam fraud with severe penalties, including hefty fines and prison time.
