India and New Zealand Sign Landmark Free Trade Deal
On April 27, 2026, India and New Zealand officially signed a landmark Free Trade Agreement (FTA) in New Delhi.
This historic deal, spanning 20 chapters, aims to deepen economic ties and foster growth.
The agreement was negotiated in record time after being revived in 2025.
Under the pact, New Zealand will provide duty-free access for Indian exports like textiles and leather.
Meanwhile, India will reduce tariffs on 95% of New Zealand’s goods, including apples and timber, while protecting its dairy sector.
A major highlight is New Zealand's commitment to facilitate US$20 billion in private investment into India’s infrastructure and technology over the next 15 years.
Indian Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal and New Zealand Trade Minister Todd McClay praised the deal as a vital step toward long-term bilateral cooperation.
By diversifying markets and reducing dependency on other regions, both nations expect this partnership to significantly boost the current bilateral trade value and create a stronger economic future for their citizens.
