On June 18, 2026, Australian professional golfer Jason Day withdrew from the 126th U.S.
Open at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club.
The 38-year-old, who has battled chronic back issues for over a decade, ended his tournament prematurely after playing 10 holes.
Day struggled during his opening round, recording six consecutive bogeys and sitting at 7-over-par before ultimately choosing to retire.
Witnesses observed him wincing in pain during a practice swing on the 10th hole, prompting his decision to leave the course by golf cart alongside his caddie.
This marks the 12th time in Day's career he has withdrawn due to injury.
Known for his resilience—most famously competing through vertigo in 2015—Day’s latest exit highlights the ongoing challenges of his physical health in a demanding sport.
