Wellington’s iconic Town Hall, known as Te Whare Whakarauika, is finally reopening its doors after a long-awaited 13-year closure.
On Saturday, 20 February 2027, the Grade 1 heritage building will host a grand reopening concert headlined by the celebrated hometown band, Drax Project.
The venue underwent extensive restoration beginning in 2019, blending its early 1900s historical charm with state-of-the-art modern acoustics.
For Drax Project, known for chart-toppers like 'Woke Up Late,' this concert is a 'full-circle moment' as they return to their university roots.
The evening promises to be spectacular, featuring an opening set by Bret McKenzie and his band, The State Highway Wonders, alongside surprise appearances from various local artists.
This reopening represents a major milestone in the development of the National Music Centre and the broader revitalisation of the city’s cultural heart, Te Ngākau.
This historic event marks a vibrant new chapter for Wellington’s performing arts scene.
