Every year, communities across the United States come together for National Night Out (NNO).
Since its launch in 1984 by the National Association of Town Watch, this initiative has grown from simple porch-light vigils into a massive movement involving millions of neighbors.
Held on the first Tuesday in August—or in October for some regions—NNO is designed to make neighborhoods safer and more connected.
The core goals are to heighten awareness about crime prevention, generate support for local anti-crime programs, and strengthen the bond between residents and law enforcement.
