On June 12, 2026, the Central Bank of Barbados officially launched BiMPay, a transformative national instant payment system.
Designed to modernize the country’s financial infrastructure, BiMPay allows individuals, businesses, and government entities to send and receive money in under 10 seconds.
A core feature of BiMPay is its focus on financial inclusion.
By offering a BiMPay e-wallet, the system invites those without traditional bank accounts into the formal financial sector.
Users can send money easily using simple identifiers like phone numbers, email addresses, or QR codes instead of complicated account numbers.
Security is also prioritized through end-to-end encryption and biometric authentication.
By replacing older infrastructure and facilitating rapid government payments, BiMPay aims to boost Barbados' economic competitiveness, reduce the informal economy, and set a new standard for digital finance in the region.
