AeroVironment recently introduced the TOM 50 RE, a groundbreaking compact, backpackable uncrewed ground vehicle (UGV) designed for modern military and specialized security teams.
Unveiled at Eurosatory 2026 in Paris, this robot is engineered to support dismounted forces, explosive ordnance disposal units, and SWAT teams operating at the tactical edge.
Weighing less than 10 kilograms, the TOM 50 RE is easily carried by a single operator.
Its unique tracked design includes a stair-climbing flipper system, allowing it to navigate uneven terrain and multi-story buildings with ease.
With a five-hour battery life and an integrated 360-degree infrared camera, it provides critical situational awareness.
Furthermore, the robot uses SLAM technology for interior mapping in areas where GPS is unavailable.
By focusing on multi-domain robotic integration, AeroVironment continues to develop tools that reduce risk to human personnel, offering a versatile solution for troops facing the challenges of modern, contested environments.
