CERN to Lead New Open-Access Scientific Publishing Platform

In a major boost for scientific transparency, CERN has been selected to lead a new phase of Open Research Europe (ORE).

Originally launched in 2021 by the European Commission, ORE provides a venue for researchers to share findings without the traditional fees associated with commercial journals.

CERN will supply the technical backbone using open-source software, leveraging its deep expertise in managing large-scale data platforms like Zenodo.

Articles are published immediately after initial checks, followed by a transparent post-publication peer review process where reviewer identities are public.

This initiative aligns with the Diamond Open Access movement, aiming to return control of scientific communication to the academic community.

It represents a significant step toward reclaiming scientific infrastructure from profit-driven entities while supporting interdisciplinary innovation across Europe.
