Brazilian Indigenous Leader Awarded 43rd Niwano Peace Prize
On March 10, 2026, the Niwano Peace Foundation announced that Benki Piyãko, a prominent spiritual leader of the Ashaninka people, will receive the 43rd Niwano Peace Prize.
Based in Brazil's Apiwtxa Indigenous Territory, Piyãko is celebrated for his dedicated work in environmental protection and the preservation of Indigenous culture.
Through his Yorenka Tasorentsi Institute, he has led initiatives in sustainable land management and reforestation, effectively mobilizing youth to protect the Amazon rainforest.
