WHO Leaders Meet in France to Strengthen Global Health Research
In April 2026, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the French government convened in Lyon for a pivotal series of meetings.
A major focus was the “One Health” approach, which acknowledges that human, animal, and environmental health are deeply interconnected.
The One Health Summit, held during France’s G7 presidency, prioritized tackling zoonotic diseases and antimicrobial resistance.
Simultaneously, the Global Forum of WHO Collaborating Centres brought together experts from over 800 institutions to foster innovation and data sharing.
Key outcomes included a renewed mandate for the One Health High-Level Expert Panel and the launch of initiatives to eliminate dog-mediated rabies by 2030 and improve avian influenza surveillance.
By integrating interdisciplinary research and strengthening global infrastructure, the WHO is building a resilient scientific ecosystem.
