Cronulla Sharks sign first UK import in 50 years
The Cronulla Sharks have made a historic move by signing English forward Owen Trout, marking their first UK recruit in nearly 50 years.
The 26-year-old, who plays at both lock and backrow, brings a wealth of experience from the Super League, where he has notched 124 appearances for clubs like the Leeds Rhinos, Huddersfield Giants, and Leigh Leopards.
Following a competitive recruitment battle with the Perth Bears, the Sharks secured Trout on a two-year contract starting in 2027.
Sharks General Manager of Football, Darren Mooney, praised Trout's "workhorse" mentality, noting that he fits perfectly with the club's current forward pack identity.
By adding Trout, head coach Craig Fitzgibbon aims to deepen the team's forward rotation and build long-term stability.
Fans are eager to see how the English international adapts to the intensity of the NRL when he arrives in Australia for the 2027 season.
