〜ました

Learn how to state completed actions in polite Japanese using the past tense 〜ました.

Polite present action verbs ending in 〜ます are made past-tense simply by changing the ending to 〜ました (mashita):

買いました

I bought a book.

This works for any standard habit or single action in the past:

コーヒー飲みました

I drank coffee.
