〜ます

Learn how to describe daily habits and routines using basic polite verbs like drink, read, play, and clean.

In Japanese, present-tense verbs end in 〜ます in their polite form. They are used to describe current actions or habitual routines. Direct objects are marked with the particle :

読みます

I read a book.

To talk about play or generalized activities, we use the helper verb します (to do / play):

テニスします

I play tennis.
