The world of rock music lost a legend on August 17, 2026, with the passing of ZZ Top drummer Frank Beard at the age of 77.
Beard, who had been battling declining health, passed away peacefully at his ranch in Richmond, Texas, surrounded by family.
As a core member of the iconic trio for 57 years, Beard was instrumental in crafting the band's signature Texas boogie-blues-rock sound.
He provided the driving, steady percussion behind massive hits like 'La Grange,' 'Tush,' and 'Sharp Dressed Man.'
Interestingly, despite being the only band member with the surname 'Beard' for most of his career, he remained clean-shaven until 2013, contrasting with his bandmates' famous long beards.
Following the loss of bassist Dusty Hill in 2021, Beard's death marks another significant chapter in the band's history.
With over 50 million records sold and a 2004 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Frank Beard’s legacy as a brilliant collaborator and foundational rock drummer will endure for generations to come.
