World Bank Launches New Projects to Restore Services in Syria
On April 23, 2026, the World Bank announced a significant grant of $225 million to restore essential services in Syria.
After 14 years of conflict, much of the nation's infrastructure is in ruins.
This funding aims to reach 4.5 million people by focusing on two primary areas: water security and health.
A $150 million project will repair water supplies and wastewater plants in major cities, while a $75 million project will improve primary healthcare across 150 centers, focusing on vulnerable populations.
This initiative marks a major step in the World Bank's re-engagement with Syria, following the clearance of the country's debt in 2025.
As part of a larger plan to invest over $1 billion in Syria, these efforts are crucial for national recovery, fostering social cohesion, and supporting displaced people returning home.
By shifting from a hospital-centric model to accessible primary care and upgrading utilities, these projects aim to provide a stable foundation for the future of the Syrian people.
