Wisconsin Cancels Tornado Drills Due to Recent Severe Weather
On April 15, 2026, Wisconsin Emergency Management (WEM) and ReadyWisconsin officially canceled the statewide tornado drills that were set for the following day.
These drills were intended to be a highlight of Severe Weather Awareness Week.
Greg Engle, the administrator of WEM, explained that because emergency crews were already occupied with real-world recovery efforts, conducting drills would put unnecessary pressure on vital resources.
While the drill was cancelled, officials urge residents to continue prioritizing their personal safety plans and to ensure they have reliable ways to receive weather alerts.
With the state averaging 23 tornadoes a year, preparedness remains a critical, ongoing responsibility for every citizen, regardless of whether a formal drill occurs.
