As of May 20, 2026, Warhorse Studios, the talented team behind the Kingdom Come: Deliverance series, has officially confirmed they are developing a new open-world RPG set in J.R.R.
Tolkien’s Middle-earth.
Under the leadership of Viktor Bocan, the studio is approaching this as a passion project, aiming to combine their signature focus on deep immersion and narrative-driven world-building with the rich lore of Tolkien’s universe.
While the game is in its early stages and no release date is set, the project is part of a broader strategy by Embracer Group to leverage major properties through a new entity called Fellowship Entertainment.
Fans are particularly excited about how Warhorse’s grounded, realistic design style—famously showcased in their historical RPGs—will translate to a high-fantasy setting.
Alongside this Middle-earth endeavor, the studio is also working on a new entry in the Kingdom Come franchise.
Though the journey ahead is long, the prospect of an immersive, systemic Middle-earth experience has created significant buzz in the gaming community.
