The U.S.
Air Force recently reached a major milestone in aviation by successfully testing AI-controlled fighter jets.
The heart of these experiments is the X-62A VISTA, a modified F-16D that acts as a flying laboratory.
Unlike basic autopilot systems, this aircraft uses advanced machine learning to make real-time tactical decisions.
During the DARPA ACE program, the AI engaged in intense dogfights against human pilots at speeds reaching 1,200 mph.
Later, through the HAVE HEAT program, the jet successfully tracked and intercepted other aircraft using onboard sensors.
These autonomous 'wingmen' are designed to fly alongside human-crewed jets to boost combat effectiveness and pilot safety.
