Ukraine to produce Patriot missiles as Somalian forces rescue tanker

Late September 2026 brought two significant international updates.

First, Ukraine and the United States have reached a landmark agreement allowing Ukraine to domestically produce Patriot air defense missiles.

While this is a critical step to address Ukraine's shortage of interceptors against Russian missile attacks, defense experts warn that establishing manufacturing capabilities will likely take over a year.

Meanwhile, off the coast of Somalia, the Puntland Maritime Police Forces successfully rescued the oil tanker MT Sibu 1 from pirates.

During the operation near Garacad, authorities captured 15 pirates and safely recovered all 20 crew members.

This rescue operation underscores the growing threat of piracy in the region, which has reached its highest level of activity since 2013, challenging international maritime security efforts.
