Secretary of the Air Force Troy Meink confirmed a major shift in military strategy: the United States has officially deployed on-orbit space control weapons.
During the Air, Space, and Cyber Conference in Maryland, Meink revealed that these assets are designed to defend the Joint Force from hostile actions.
These may include both kinetic weapons, like physical impactors, and non-kinetic tools, such as lasers or electronic jamming technology.
Historically, these programs were considered 'open secrets,' but this public acknowledgment is intended to strengthen deterrence.
This milestone underscores the evolution of space from a peaceful frontier into a highly contested warfighting domain, reflecting a broader effort by the U.S. to modernize its military capabilities against emerging global threats.
