Tokyo MX Chairman Dismissed Following Harassment Investigation
On April 17, 2026, Tokyo Metropolitan Television (Tokyo MX) announced the dismissal of its Representative Director and Chairman, Hiroshi Date, due to confirmed cases of workplace harassment.
The investigation began after a whistleblower report in December 2025.
With the help of outside lawyers, the company found that Date had engaged in what is known as "power harassment," which includes inappropriate behavior and verbal abuse toward staff.
During an emergency meeting on April 15, the board decided to remove him from his leadership roles.
By April 16, Date had also resigned from his seat on the board.
This incident reflects a wider change in Japan regarding "pawa-hara," or power harassment.
Tokyo MX has issued a formal apology and promised to improve internal oversight to prevent future problems.
The company's swift action shows how modern Japanese businesses are adapting to higher expectations for employee protection and professional conduct in the workplace.
