On Monday, June 22, 2026, a tragic shooting took place in the Côte-des-Neiges neighborhood of Montreal, leaving three people dead.
The incident began around 11:35 a.m. when police received reports of an armed individual firing from a building.
Tragically, police officer Mohamed Lamine Benredouane, 34, lost his life in the line of duty, marking the first such death of a Montreal officer in 24 years.
A local rabbi, Michael Moshe Mizrahi, was also killed, and the gunman died during the police confrontation.
A second female officer sustained serious injuries but is currently in stable condition.
While some reports have linked the gunman to extremist ideology, officials have not yet officially identified a motive or declared the event a hate crime.
The community remains in shock, and government leaders, including Prime Minister Mark Carney, have expressed their deep condolences.
As the investigation continues, authorities are urging the public to remain patient and avoid speculation while the city mourns this devastating loss.
