The Wedding Banquet: A New Musical is returning to Taipei for its final performances in Taiwan this September.
Taking place at the National Theater from September 25 to 27, 2026, this engagement marks a significant milestone before the production expands internationally to the United States.
Based on Ang Leeβs acclaimed 1993 film, the musical explores the complex themes of family, identity, and the clash between tradition and modern values.
The story follows Wai-Tung, a gay Taiwanese man who enters a marriage of convenience with Wei-Wei, an immigrant from Shanghai, to satisfy his traditional parents.
Conceived by Welly Yang, the show serves as a heartfelt dialogue about love and acceptance, aiming to bridge Taiwanese and American cultures.
To celebrate this final local run, a digital 'Taiwan Pride' exhibition will be available online until September 27.
