On September 28, 2026, SpaceX reached a historic milestone during the 14th test flight of its Starship megarocket.
Launching from Starbase, Texas, the vehicle successfully entered orbit and deployed 26 next-generation Starlink V3 satellites.
Despite experiencing a minor engine failure that shortened the flight, the mission successfully transitioned Starship from an experimental craft to an operational, revenue-generating launch system.
The Starlink V3 satellites represent a massive leap in technology.
Unlike the smaller V2 mini satellites, each V3 unit offers approximately 1 terabit per second of downlink capacity—a tenfold increase.
These larger satellites utilize a specialized 'Pez dispenser' mechanism and feature advanced space lasers for communication.
Because of their size, these units require the heavy-lift capacity of Starship rather than the smaller Falcon 9.
This mission was critical not just for Starlink, but for NASA's Artemis program, as it proved Starship’s ability to handle functional commercial payloads.
With cameras capturing data on the ship's heat shield and the promise of carrying up to 60 satellites per future launch, SpaceX has signaled a new era of space exploration and global connectivity.
